Regular Retrospective Painted Canvas Collages 1993, 2002 and 2011

This interest in collage was first triggered by the invitation of Belgian philosopher Marcel Paquet to provide a suite of small works as catalogue covers for a New New Painting group exhibition sponsored in 1993 by the Walloon Cultural Ministry of the Belgian Government, held at the Grande Palais in Bruxelles. The catalogue never materialized, but I made the 11 3/4 x 9 3/4 inch collages using off-cut pieces from other paintings, and they are included here as the Bruxelles Suite.

The Armory Suite, a group of 22 works was shown in 2000 at the 69th Regiment Armory, New York in a showing of over 200 works by the New New Painting group.

The Turkish Suite is so named because they were made following my participation in the summer of 2010, in the first international artists' workshop, held at Pamukale University, Denizli, Turkey.  I travelled to Istanbul and Izmir and to the textile towns around Denizli.  Dinizli is located in a textile and agricultural valleys surrounded by mountains, 11 hours south by car from Istanbul and four hours east,  inland from Izmir, which is on the coast.

The colours and textures of the pre painted off cut canvas pieces I choose for the eight collages in the 'Turkish Suite ' reflect my impressions and visual sensations of Turkey.

The Suite One Eleven, 2011, is the largest and longest running suite of collages I have  yet made.  They number one hundred and eleven and were began in the Fall of 2010 and completed in November ,the eleventh month of 2011, the eleventh year, which resulted in my titling the suite, One Eleven.

They are  individual works, resolved as complete stand alone pieces. They are numbered by my choice of order, should they ever be hung together.
