Suite 111 (One Eleven)

Suite 111 (One Eleven) is the largest and longest running suite of collages I have made.  They number one hundred and eleven and were began in the Fall of 2010 and completed in November ,the eleventh month of 2011, the eleventh year, which resulted in my titling the suite, One Eleven.

They are  individual works, resolved as complete stand alone pieces. They are numbered by my choice of order, should they ever be hung together. 

These collages  are formed by bringing together pieces of previously painted acrylic on canvas with painted colour bands.  The painted collage pieces have colour and textural associations which resemble forms in nature, especially the earth, trees and rock formations. These characteristics are inherent in the paint formations themselves and are cultivated in the topographical way in which I paint (pouring paint flat , allowing and causing, fissures and patterns in the paint to form). 

In these collages I have also used other remnant canvases from the 1970's, 80's and 90's providing me with a large palette from which to compose.  Following selection and fixing of collage pieces I  paint colours along side the collage to complete the composition. The range of colour and composition of these pieces is typical of my wide ranging palette and share the same positive spirit as in my larger scale canvases.
